OK this is a little technical, but the effective thermal storage capacity of any material is a combination of its latent and specific heat storage capacities.
Since the bioPCmat product contains a bio-based material that melts and freezes near room temperature, it can leverage ALL the material’s available storage capacity.
How Much Energy Can It Store?
As a rule of thumb, a .5” layer of bioPCmat material utilizing a phase change has the equivalent in thermal mass to approximately 12 inches of concrete when included in the walls of a structure. This provides a huge increase in the thermal mass of the structure which allows it to maintain its desired temperature for significantly greater len
gths of time. This addition of thermal mass also allows the structure to shift its peak demand on the energy grid due to its latent heat storage capacity. This in turn reduces the energy consumption of the structure.
bioPCM offers:

Organic and non-corrosive, bioPCM is the active ingredient in the PCES industry leading bioPCmat products. Most of the bioPCM building products we offer melt and freeze near room temperature. As the bioPCM material melts it absorbs heat. Conversely, when it freezes, it gives off heat. This is what happens when water melts or freezes. But, since water changes phase between solid and liquid at a much lower temperature, it doesn't always serve as well to control building temperature. There are many situations where bioPCmat products can help control both your air conditioning and heating costs, sometimes in the same 24 hours.
Fire and smoke suppression:
Tested to ASTM E84, the PCES bioPCmat products have a fire suppressing layer that works to extinguish most small fires. Independent tests gave our BioPCM products high scores for their ability to reduce the smoke index of a fire. Less smoke means fewer air-borne toxins, added visibility and so improved chances of escape for people caught in larger, more dangerous fires. See YouTube video.
Durability:
