bioPCmat™ Adds To Natural Comfort In University of Washington Building
Designed for LEED Gold status, the University of Washington’s Molecular Engineering Building is well-glazed to offer abundant daylight for warmth on cool days. An advanced ventilation system minimizes any potential for overheating on warm summer days. Phase Change Energy Solution’s bioPCmat product serves to help the University achieve both these design objectives.

What is different about bioPCmat compared other thermal mass solutions like concrete or water: The bioPCmat temperature remains constant while the bioPCM is changing state and absorbing or releasing energy. In summer, it will absorb excess heat that accumulates by day and hold it until night when temperatures begin to fall below room temperature. Then, the bioPCM material starts to refreeze. As it does the bioPCM material offers up warmth to help keep the building air warm through the evening.
By providing a light-weight, self-balancing thermal mass, the bioPCmat product augments the many natural thermal management tools employed in the University of Washington building design... helping to create a naturally comfortable environment and at the same time reduce electricity bills and carbon emissions.
